‘Our Lives – Reflections and Recollections’ CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP

Join Feminist Brighton for the second in a series of workshops for cis and trans women and queer feminists:

Friends Meeting House
Wednesday 23rd May
6.30pm

A creative writing workshop that aims to engage everyone in exploring our inner and outer worlds through poems and personal accounts.

We will employ our creativity to express our views and aspects of our lives past and present. Using accessible writing techniques, we can engage questions such as: Who am I now? When have I felt lost or fearful or angry? What do I perceive in the world around me? Through our writing, we can find ways of shaping our ideas, thoughts, emotions, memories – reclaiming the power and strength of our own unique voice.

The workshop runs for three hours, 6.30-9.30 and there will be an opportunity for tea and biscuits. The workshop is open to women who identify as cis or trans and queer feminists. We ask for a donation of 2-3 pounds to cover the cost of the room hire.

Pro Choice Demo in Brighton this Saturday

Saturday 28th April, meet at 10.30am, Preston Park

From Brighton Pro Choice:

Anti-choice group SPUC (The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children) are holding a ‘kerbside vigil’ in Brighton on Preston Road (next to Preston Park) as part of a national day of action.

SPUC would like to overturn the current abortion legislation and make all abortion in all circumstances illegal.
This is a group that would also like to ban the use of contraception.

SPUC made the headlines recently by telling schoolchildren that abortion leads to breast cancer and other such medical inaccuracies: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/mar/23/abortion-what-children-schools

Brighton Pro Choice is organising against SPUC and their fundamentalist principals, and we ask you to join us on Saturday 28th April to counter their ‘vigil’ with us.

Meet 10.30am at the Rotunda Café in Preston Park (next to the rose garden)
(we will then be on Preston Road from 11am-1pm).

Bring signs, banners, placards and yourselves to show them that we will not stand for their anti-choice bigotry. We are the pro choice majority!

Join us in telling them to SPUC OFF!

Carnival for Choice

from: http://www.facebook.com/events/218760944898295/

“CARNIVAL FOR CHOICE!

Pro-Choice rally and march in Worthing!

Sunday 15th April, 10am.

We have called for a carnival for choice on this day as we are extremely alarmed at the continuation of US-styled anti-choice protests that have been happening outside abortion clinics in the UK.

One of the targets, both of the current ’40 days for life’ campaign and a sustained bi-weekly protest is a BPAS (British Pregnancy Advisory Service) Clinic in Brighton.
The group organising these protests outside the clinic is the aptly named ‘Abort67’ -a group that wants to make abortion illegal, regardless of circumstance, who are from Worthing, and supported and facilitated by a local church. They use extreme graphic images of aborted foetuses on large boards and banners, film on cameras, and have been known to call women murderers and physically encircle them.

We say NO MORE!

No more harassment and intimidation of people accessing a legal medical service!

So join us, on the 15th of April for a lively & fun pro-choice carnival!

Starting at Worthing High School, where they congregate on a Sunday, and heading into the centre of town for a spectacular finale.

Bring placards, instruments, your friends and a smile!

All welcome!

See you there!

Brighton Pro Choice ♥

Meet us on Sunday, April 15th!

Brighton Station 8.30am
Worthing Station 9.15am
Worthing High School from 9.30am

Need a lift? There are some rides going over from Brighton, email :
brightonprochoice(at)riseup(dot)net to arrange!

From Abortion Rights – Pro Choice Protest on Friday

Action Alert: Pro-Choice Protest on Friday!

7.00pm, Friday 30th March, Bedford Square, London

It’s protest time again, folks. Anti-choice activists are currently staging a 40 day protest at the Bpas clinic in Bloomsbury, central London. They are outside every day, 8am to 8pm, praying, approaching people entering and leaving the clinic, handing out inaccurate information and on at least one occasion filming staff and clients.

They’re part of a growing tide of anti-choice activity, which is increasingly mimicking the tactics of hardline US groups – from harassing women trying to enter clinics, to hacking the websites of providers, to targeting those who rent premises to them.

Pro-choice groups have not staged counter-protests against these picketers during clinic hours: it increases anti-choice numbers and often makes the situation worse for service users.

But on Friday 30th March, ’40 Days for Life’ will be joined in Bedford Square by Bishop Alan Hopes for an evening ‘prayer vigil’ outside the Bpas clinic. Abortion Rights will be joining a peaceful counter-protest alongside other pro-choice groups and we hope you will be able to join us.

We want to make sure it’s a fun, family-friendly event – so bring babies, kids, partners and pets – everyone’s welcome! We plan to be noisy, but good humored and non-confrontational.

Women attempting to access a legal medical service must be able to do so without fear of harassment or intimidation. It’s time for the UK’s pro-choice majority to say we’ve had enough of this kind of behaviour and to stand up for our right to safe, legal abortion.

Where: Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3HP (nearest tube Tottenham Court Road)

When: 7.00pm on Friday 30th March

Details are on Facebook and follow @BloomsburyPCA and @Abortion_Rights on Twitter for updates
